Happy Monday

Hello and Happy Monday. 

Can you believe how fast the days and month are flying by? I am sharing some images from our walk at the local nature center called  Hashawha. I have done various post on our walks at this park you can check out other post listed on the tags and side bar.


There are two Eastern Bluebirds in the photo below, can you find them?

The American Crow below was talking or fussing about something. 

There were some pretty water lilies in one of the three ponds at Hashawha Nature Center.

One spot along the trail was filled with pretty Bee Balm.

Next to the Bee Balm were these pretty purple flowers. Not sure of their id.

Slider turtles were plentiful.  This one was just a baby.

Torn but still pretty Great Spangled Fritillary butterfly on the milkweed?

Just guessing this is a Window Skimmer?

Can a birder have two spark birds? If so I would say it is a toss up between the Eastern Bluebird and Rose-breasted Grosbeak.  All it takes was just one look. Spark bird, it is when a casual observance became an obsession over the birds. That's me, I am addicted to birds. Have you had a spark moment, a spark bird?

The Eastern Bluebird, my spark bird. One day I watched out my window at the Bluebirds checking out all the bird houses in my yard.  They were only house hunting and chose to find another home in someone else's yard. This is my unhappy face :(


I think the male above is telling his partner to go inside and check out my bird house.

Go ahead inside, what are you waiting for?

Now, the female is telling the male to go inside and check out the next house.

It is all about the location, location location.

Now, he is thinking his partner is just too picky. What is wrong with these two beautiful houses, they are right next to the blueberry bushes.

Sharing some birds from our road trip, these are from Logan Ohio and Lake Logan.

I think the Northern Rough-winged Swallows are adorable.

Below are the Gray Catbird, Red-eyed Vireo, Pine Siskins, Swainson's Thrush, Pigeons, Bluebird, another Thrush, Louisiana Waterthrush, Northern Rough-winged Swallows.

Happy Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday, 

Sorry my last post was out of order, that post was actually our 2nd day of our trip. This is the first day we arrived. Recently hubby and I enjoyed a road trip starting from our home in Maryland we drove to Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and back home to Maryland. I took way too many photos to share, so I will highlight some of the areas we visited. 

We started off the trip in Logan Ohio, after a 6-7 hour car ride we needed to take a walk and stretch our legs. So our first afternoon we visited Strouds Run State Park for a walk and Lake Logan for the sunset. 

The Strouds Run SP trail had a lot of wildflowers, birds and pretty views of the river and lake. Birds seen were the Canada Geese, Eastern Kingbird, Wood Thrush, Eastern Bluebird, American Redstarts and Song Sparrows.

We saw many different wildflowers along the trail, I am not sure of the id.

A view of the Strouds Run, the Redbud Trees across the way were pretty. A lovely blue sky day too. I believe the muddy waters are due to the heavy rains from the previous day. 

After checking into our Logan hotel and having a nice dinner, we drove to Lake Logan to see the sun setting.

I am sharing some backyard birds, the only critter I've seen lately in my backyard has been a bunny. The bunny is camera shy and runs off quickly.  My backyard birds are the Eastern Bluebird, House Finch and the Downy Woodpecker. These photos were taken on March 2nd.

I am not sure if any of my followers participated with the Great Backyard Bird Count with Cornell Lab of Ornithology, here is the link GBBC  the count took place on Feb 16-19th. Here are some of the birds I saw during my backyard count. It is a fun online citizen-science project.

The Northern Cardinals, I counted 3 males and 2 females at one time.

The Eastern Bluebird does not stop by often but sometimes I catch them sitting in our back yard trees. On this day I saw a pair, maybe checking out my birdhouses.

The Blue Jays were my highest count species of bird. I saw 12  Blue Jays at one time.

On Feb 18th we had about 2inches of snow. The GBBC also asks us to record the weather along with the length of time we watched our backyard birds.  There are three White-throated Sparrows below can you find them?

3 Eastern Bluebirds showed up during my count and checked out the birdhouse.
